1The name Quill in the context of fountain pens and writing history generally refers to three distinct entities:The Vintage Pen Brand (Quill Pen Co.): Originally owned by the Bedford family of Providence, Rhode Island, this legacy American manufacturer produced fountain pens and luxury ballpoints. Their signature look features a distinct oblique cut cap top and a feather-shaped pocket clip. The brand was later absorbed by Newell Rubbermaid, making their gold-filled fountain pens highly sought-after vintage collector's items today.
2The Modern Stationery Brand (GC Quill): A popular contemporary brand that manufactures antique calligraphy sets, feather dip pens, starter fountain pens, and specialized multi-color drawing inks.
3The Office Supply Giant (Quill.com): Founded as the Quill Corporation, this company was acquired by Staples in 1998. They do not manufacture proprietary pens but operate as a major online distributor selling everyday office stationery and name-brand fountain pens.
